From Risky DMs to a Dream EP—EQUAL’s Parallel Is Here

EQUAL RELEASES HIGHLY ANTICIPATED EP PARALLEL

A Story of Determination, Dreams, and Defying the Odds

Oshawa, ON — February 18, 2025: Some artists find their way into music. Others, like harmonic sister duo EQUAL, carve their path through sheer grit, a fearless spirit, and a relentless belief in their craft. Their sophomore EP, Parallel, released on February 15, 2025, isn’t just a collection of songs—it’s a declaration of resilience, a testament to the risks taken, and a tribute to the countless doors they knocked on until one opened.

The Road To Parallel

Chelsea and Saleen Nolan’s journey started in the unlikeliest of places: festival grounds where their father, a firm believer in their talent, would drive them to gig after gig. “We were 12 and 14, and he’d be like, ‘You have seven performances this summer,’” Chelsea recalls. “He took it more seriously than we did at first.”

That unshakable confidence shaped their approach to music. Whether it was singing for construction workers on the It movie set or sliding into the DMs of Grammy-nominated producer Jesse Blum (Twenty One Pilots, NAS, Hit-Boy), EQUAL understood early on that opportunity favors the bold.

A Full Circle Moment

Their single "stupid" embodies this fearlessness. Co-written with Blum, J Glaze, and Marc Campbell (MisterWives), it tackles imposter syndrome head-on. “We wrote it about those moments where you’re trying so hard but still feel like it’s not enough,” Chelsea shares. “But looking back, every step led us here.”

That willingness to step into the unknown led to a pivotal moment: flying to New York to co-produce with Blum. The result? A track that is both anthemic and deeply personal, a mirror reflecting years of dedication and uncertainty, now crystallized into something powerful.

What Parallel Stands For

The EP’s name speaks volumes. “We’re two individuals with distinct voices and perspectives, but we move together,” Saleen explains. Parallel represents that balance and unity.”

From the playful nostalgia of "SF(whataboutit?)" to the raw emotion of "Dean Ave 1190," every track serves as a chapter in EQUAL’s story. The sisters invite listeners to not just hear their music, but to feel it—to recognize their own journeys within the lyrics and melodies.

No Shortcuts, No Safety Nets

Raised without financial backing, Chelsea and Saleen have had to build their career brick by brick. “There were times we wished we had more resources,” Chelsea admits. “But knowing we had to fight for this makes it that much more meaningful.”

Saleen echoes the sentiment: “When you’ve been at the bottom, you appreciate every win so much more.”

This DIY ethos has shaped Parallel, with collaborations from industry heavyweights like Tanner Ledford (Valley, JOAN), Brian Gosling, Thomas Hsu (Cozyfruits), Rob Bruneau (Claire Rosinkranz), and Ian Fragomeni. But at its core, this project remains 100% EQUAL—authentic, unfiltered, and built on their belief that music is about connection, not perfection.
