Nashville Indie Folk Singer Izzy Potter Navigates Unrequited Love on New Single "guarded"

LISTEN HERE / WATCH HERE

Nashville, TN — May 30, 2025: Wearing your heart on your sleeve can take you far. If anyone’s proof of that, it’s indie folk talent Izzy Potter. The singer-songwriter began crafting her storytelling style at the age of 12, employing endearing vocals and honest lyricism to welcome listeners into the world of her personal experiences. She has since been rewarded for it with a number of career-defining achievements, from being recognized by The Nashville Songwriters Association International as “One To Watch” to supporting Arcy Drive at The Bowery Ballroom in New York City, headlining The End and The East Room in Nashville, and winning Belmont University’s 2024 Pop Showcase. Today, Izzy embarks on her next milestone, a brand new single titled “guarded,” and an offering of her unabashed vulnerability once again.

About "guarded"

On “guarded,” Izzy draws inspiration from artists like Gracie Abrams, Maggie Rogers, and Big Thief as she wanders through the woes of accidentally falling into something unrequited and facing the consequential longing that follows. Delicate vocals and plucky guitar strums dress every detail of the heartache she explores, from the jacket she was never offered in the cold to the walk home she was forced to take alone. Through her emotionally-driven confessions, Izzy evokes an intimacy akin to a late night talk with your closest friend, creating a safe space to confront this  universally experienced pain — the agonizing desire to be wanted.

This transparency drives Izzy’s storytelling with complete intention. “I want my audience to feel like there is someone else out there who has been in their situation,” she says. “I want to create a community where everyone feels heard and included while talking about difficult issues and knows there are others out there who get it. I hope my lyrics resonate with them.”

The empathy that leads Izzy’s mission as an artist reveals what it means to be the antithesis of the song’s subject in a beautiful and empowering way. She is far from guarded. Rather, she is willing to bare her soul in hopes of connecting with those that need connection most — ready to spill the contents of her heart to remind everyone how relatable navigating the complexities of love, and life, can be.
